Christians often make the mistake of asking God to give them what He has already given them in Christ, instead of believing that they already have what He says He has given them! Faith is a matter of believing what God has done for us through Jesus, and what He has given us because we now live at one with Him.
Jesus described Himself as ‘the True Vine’ and told the disciples that they were branches living in this Vine. He told them: “Stay living in Me and I will continue to live in you.” (John 15:4) Obeying this command enables you to be ‘abundantly fruitful’, whereas outside of Christ you could do nothing (v.5). You remain in Him and in His love by doing what He has commanded you (v.10)
This is the most joyful way to live: ‘in Christ’ and as a co-heir with Him, already blessed with every blessing that heaven has to give, and desiring to obey Him out of love for Him! However, your inheritance in Christ has to be appropriated by faith. You have what Jesus says you have, and can do what He says you can do. “Because you live in Christ you have been blessed with all His riches. He has blessed you in every conceivable way. You know that all His riches are yours and you are able to speak His many blessings over your lives.” (1 Corinthians 1:5-6)
