Beschrijving

A play based on the life of Cuthman, Saint of Sussex.

A simple and pastoral tale about a saint of rural England, who built a church. The structure is a predictable arc and when there is verse it’s pretty ordinary as well. The enjoyment I got out of it was mostly a vision of life in Sussex, since the actual drama and tension is very low – any threat, even mockery, is immediately rectified by God as indication of young Cuthman’s immense piety (it isn’t really explained why such treatment is given to him specifically when he initially treats it as a convenient way to corral sheep, but that’s an acceptable license compared to him literally summoning a whirlwind to deal with petty theft).

Overall, not really something to remember, but it presents a nice picture of Sussex and isn’t offensive.
