Beschrijving
Unacc. melodies and words of 27 songs. Chosen from a collection made between 1905 and 1908 by H.E.D. Hammond and his brother.
First published, December 1948. These 27 songs chosen from a collection made between the years 1905 and 1908 by H. E. D. Hammond and his brother, who toured Dorset on their bicycles and visited singers in towns and villages all over the county. They range from songs of early origin such as “The Unquiet Grave” with its beautiful tune and haunting words, to much later types such as “All the months of the Year” which might be improvised on any convivial occasion, or “My Rose in June” which suggests an accordion accompaniment.—- Includes a map of Dorset showing the locations that were sources of these songs, notes on some of the singers from whom the songs were originally collected, with lovely illustrations by Joyce Davey.
