For more than two decades Green’s vocation has been ministering to inner-city men on the margins of society in downtown Chicago. Deacon Green’s lessons learned are set against stories of men who struggle to escape poverty, addiction, and sexual sin while encountering Christ in the process.

Deacon John Green uses his 20 years of experience in ministering to street hustlers as an opportunity to examine what it is to live an intentionally Christian life and to challenge his readers to do the same. The stories of men who, beaten down by abuse, addictions, poverty and homelessness, turn to selling themselves on the streets are compelling.
But the stories are not about the men he serves so much as they are about how one responds as a Christian to a world that is suffering. What does it mean to rise to the challenge of the prophet Micah to “…do right and to love goodness, and to walk humbly with your God”?
The stories told are engaging and inspiring in themselves and well worth the investment in the book. But it is the reflection questions at the end of each chapter that challenge me to examine my own faith life. This book is well suited to be used with small faith-sharing groups.
